It’s no surprise that the editors of Uncanny magazine would hold themselves to goals just as ambitious as their magazine and it’s wonderful history of Space Unicorns. For years, Lynne M. Thomas has made several public promises that, when she achieved tenure, she would cosplay as Black Canary from Gail Simone’s Birds of Prey run. She shared the plan on the SF Squeecast and with Uncanny‘s Space Unicorn Ranger Corps (a.k.a., Kickstarter backers and subscribers)—and now, she’s made good on her word!
At this year’s CONvergence, Thomas rocked the Black Canary duds—her very first cosplay, as it turned out. She also tweeted a photo to Simone…
.@GailSimone I did my very first cosplay this year! Black Canary. Because REASONS. pic.twitter.com/z9dWw4Kawc

…who responded!
Holy crap, you make a FANTASTIC Canary! https://t.co/pKAvhT1CZa — GAIL SIMONE (@GailSimone) July 9, 2015
Clearly, cosplay should be the goal/reward/treat for all major and minor life achievements.
Congrats on the tenure, Lynne!
